The Quinn Keast Foundation contributed to the resources needed by the BC Deaf Sports Federation to send a girls’ basketball team to a tournament in Portland, Oregon. The BCSD Grizzlies were the first ever BC School for the Deaf girls team. Before the tournament the girls had never played a game, so the learning curve was steep.  The tournament atmosphere was amazing and the camaraderie made their time there memorable.  The team are still training throughout the spring and summer and will have the first basketball camp in August for Deaf and Hard of Hearing boys and girls.  They are looking forward to being in the tournament again next year. The team won the Sportsmanship Award for their tenacity and resilience during their games and their conduct on and off the court. Coach Devin Aiken (shown in photo) had this to say about the Award: "Wow .. speechless .. when BCSD GRIZZLIES girls team had their first practice with me, I told my girls my goal for this team was sportsmanship. Guess what? BCSD GRIZZLIES GIRLS won the sportsmanship award! It brought me to tears. I am so proud of my girls!"
